Are You Moving Soon?

Have you recently discovered that your company is moving you to a new city? Or, perhaps you have decided on your own that it is time for a change and that you want to make that change rapidly. For example, you might have decided that you want to be closer to your family members, especially during the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays. If that's true, you're probably at least a little bit stressed about the actual process of packing and moving. 

Packing And Moving Yourself -

If you are doing the packing and moving yourself, make things easier by creating a plan. And, think about asking others, perhaps friends and family members, to help you. 

• Start by asking all family members to de-clutter their own areas.
• As a family, go through each room to see what you don't want or need anymore.
• Set certain days for the actual packing and give yourself a deadline.
• If you have little kids, consider asking a trusted friend to care for you on the day you're packing.
• Unless you have friends with trucks, you will probably want to rent a moving unit yourself.

If your company is moving you, or if you just plain don't want to do the packing and moving, contact a residential moving service as soon as possible. Give the service the exact dates that you want packers to come and the exact date that you want your household things delivered to your new place of residence.

• Again, declutter your house, with the help of your family members.
• Remind your family that anything they leave in their areas will be packed.
• For example, if one of your children has a special comfort toy, be sure to put it where it won't be packed.
• If possible, try to be on hand to give the packers specific directions.
• For example, if you have a cherished figurine, let the packers know that it needs extra attention.

Since you're moving right before the holidays, it will probably be a good idea to supervise the packing of holiday decorations yourself. For example, after the Thanksgiving decor is packed, make sure that the boxes are marked THANKSGIVING and after the Christmas decorations are packed, mark them with the word CHRISTMAS.  And, don't forget to leave out medicines and other things that you'll need right away. Make it easy to get to bed linens and bath towels.
